Vocal / recording preparation
Before proceeding with any project, if you are a Singer, Songwriter please consider the following. Recording in a Premier recording studio with a Professional Producer/ Arranger and top session level musicians is probably one of the most important investments that you will make, if you are wishing to proceed on a professional level with your musical career. Choosing songs that are within your voice range and vocal ability will save you time and money. Here are some tips to consider.
- Have plenty of rest a few days before your session
- Try to avoid alcohol and smoking
- Practice, practice, practice this will tighten your performance
- Vocalists should work with a professional prior to the recording
- The voice is a very complex instrument, so a set of golden ears will keep you to stay focused
- Your lyrics should certainly be written in advance unless you are requiring help with co-writing or singwriting.
- Drinking a glass of room temperature water will lubricate the throat before the recording session
- Try to avoid any draughts or fans as this may affect the throat
- Be organised with your sheet music / lyrics and any other equipment
- Stay focused on your song paying attention to any difficult areas
- Make sure that your weight is rested evenly on both legs, if standing
- Make sure your back is supported and not stiff
- Take your breath gently through the mouth allowing three beats before the first word of the song, to get a full breath. Try not to force the air back through your mouth, draw it back gently.
- Plan to arrive in good time to calm down and relax before your session
